David Craig is proud to be a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and certified gemologist and certified appraiser with the American Gem Society (AGS). What is a Certified Gemologist?

A certified gemologist is someone who has taken advanced studies in diamonds and colored gemstones from the GIA, including diamond grading, colored stone grading, gem identification and studies on how the gem and jewelry industry work. A certified gemologist also demonstrates mastery of diamond, gemstone, and precious metal testing procedures, and stays up-to-date on the ongoing history of gemological study, making sure they know all of the latest developments in the jewelry and gemstone industry.

It is not necessary for a jeweler to be a certified gemologist; therefore it’s important that consumers look for a gemologist certification when searching for a jeweler to ensure that they are well educated about their diamond or gemstone purchase, as well as treated with integrity.

What Are The Advantages of Buying From a Certified Gemologist?

There are many advantages to buying from a certified gemologist when buying a diamond, precious stone, or other piece of fine jewelry. Being a certified gemologist means that the person can accurately identify diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry and determine their value. In addition to extensive training and knowledge, a certified gemologist adheres to a strict code of ethics.

As a member of the American Gem Society, David Craig practices the highest standard of business ethics, knowledge, and consumer protection.

When you buy diamonds and gemstones from a certified gemologist, like David, you can expect to be educated about the stone and its value, and you can also feel comfortable to ask any question. A certified gemologist will most likely provide you with an accurate answer; however, a good certified gemologist will not be afraid to admit that they “don’t know.” And if that should happen, you can guarantee that they will do the research to learn the answer for you.

Honesty is one of the most important qualities of a certified gemologist. Anyone can sell you a diamond. But would you trust buying a diamond from “anyone”? A certified gemologist is someone you can trust and feel comfortable buying a diamond from.

If you decide to buy a diamond or other piece of fine jewelry, be sure to ask the jeweler if they are a graduate of the (GIA) or a member of the AGS. If they are not, ask them why. It is far too easy to be deceived—so don’t be!
